I guess you forgot to update your homepage since recently I read the news in Kompas that Indonesia proclaimed it's 31st province which is Bangka Belitung after Banten. :) Could you find out what is the 28th and 29th? And what happened with thee 27th since East Timor is now an independent country? :)

Hello! I am interested in importing hadicrafts from Indonesia to the USA. I want contacts with locals whom hand make handicrafts, not interested in large companies. I will be traveling to make contacts in May 2001. Please if you have any information or know anyone interested in selling their unique crafts send me an email. Thank you. Merlyn

I really would like to find out about the art, especially modern art, since a favorite artist of mine, Fujishiro Seiji, was influenced by the Javenese Wayan to make his own version of the Ramayana shadow play.

    Hello Indonesia!
I can't wait to visit your country, meet your people and learn more about your rich culture. This website is a great starting point -- many thanks to its creator(s). I too am an American citizen. I am deeply saddened by the fact that people with intolerant and hateful attitudes such Robert Dier's (see below) exist in my, and probably every country in this world. It is important that the rest of us recognize that while they can be vocal, they are a minority. Most of us have no reason to hate people of different religions, cultures and races. The world is a richer place for all of this incredible variety! It is important that we not let the viewpoints of that minority cloud our views and inflame our emotions. Do not fall into Robert Dier's trap! By lumping all Americans, or westerners, or anyone different into a group to be opposed or feared or hated based on a few people's loud opinions, you become what you are reacting against. If you must react, react against the individual, the policy or the attitude. Or, even better, understand that these people are out there, work to enlighten them when possible through education, understanding and love, and work to keep them out of positions of power (government, etc) where they can spread their lies and hatred. It is you and I that will change the world, not our governments -- fight hate with love, not hate.

I can't believe what that guy wrote about a boycott of Indonesia. As someone who has a christian upbringing who lived with an Islamic family in Yogyakarta for 6 months a few years ago I am outraged. It is just this kind of stereotyping that causes problems. While I am no expert of political history of Indonesia, and like all countries has it's problems.....as the author Robert Dier is probably forgetting his own.....Muslims in Indonesia in general are the most hospitable, kind, and open people I have ever met in my life! Mr.Boycott might do well to experience the world first hand instead of through the agendas of others before preaching to the rest of us. And don't think I had no contact with christians there, I did. My instructor was a yogic follower, his father Islamic, and his mother Catholic. That alone should tell you about the openess of Indonesians. His comments say only to me the anger and misinformation of many westerners.
Sincerely, Nameless and a proud friend of Indonesia

Hi....I am an American citizen. I have no intention of EVER visiting your country or buying anything produced by it as long as those ASSHOLE muslims continue to persecute the minority christian population. I am not religious by any means but cannot sit idily by while hundreds of people are harrasssed and persecuted/killed in the name of some god. Get a life people. Live and let live....Many of my friends and familiy feel exactly as I do. I am going to boycott your country for as long as it takes to stop the god damn jihad!!!!!

What I would like to ask you is if you know anything about the kings of Flores.
I am a Canadian woman writing a book which includes the story of a woman I interviewed in Flores. Her husband was the son of a king. I have not been able to locate anything about kings: how they came to be kings, the areas they ruled, when and why they were replaced...
Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
    many thanks.
